Alon Williams – Trustee

After graduating in Economics from Cardiff University in 1981, I joined a Bangor-based firm of accountants. After 13 years and a wide range of experience in supporting local businesses and training a number of staff, I agreed to join the firm’s largest client as its accountant. After a year, I was appointed Finance Director and led the company’s finances for five years before jointly heading a successful buy-out by what has since become the largest independent Builders Merchants in the country.

Ready for a new challenge in the year 2000, I joined Bangor University and, after a few years gaining a range of experience, was appointed Finance Manager of the College of Health and Behavioural Sciences (now known as the College of Human Sciences). In this role, I was closely involved with the activities and structuring of CMRP (Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice) for around 14 years. In October 2018, I left the University and am now pursuing a portfolio of other activities including community and charity work, and bespoke business support.

I was very honoured to be invited to join as a trustee of the Mindfulness Network and, working with colleagues, I look forward to supporting the charity through its next phase of growth and development. I have had some experience with mindfulness practice through attending a CMRP course some years ago. I found this both fascinating and beneficial, and often use some of the tools that I learnt at that time.

I am a Fellow of the Association of International Accountants and see myself as a practical accountant with a particular focus on the individual and sometimes unique needs of the client/end user.
