Christoph Spiessens – MNCF Committee

Christoph Speissens

Hi, I’m Christoph. Thanks for visiting my profile.

I’m delighted to serve on the MNCF Committee and support this wonderful charity.

Originally from Belgium, I’ve lived in the UK for over 20 years.

I hold an MA in Teaching Mindfulness (with Distinction) from Bangor University (MBSR), have completed MBCT-L teacher training with Oxford Mindfulness, and trained as a mindfulness supervisor with The Mindfulness Network, where I also undertook MBI:TAC Levels 1 and 2 training. I am BAMBA-registered.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are central to my work. I gratefully lead the fortnightly LGBTQIA+ sessions for The Mindfulness Network and am particularly passionate about neuro-inclusive mindfulness.

I define Unmasked Mindfulness as exploring mindfulness without suppressing neurodivergent traits or hiding your authentic self, allowing you to practise in ways that are accessible, safe, and effective for your own neurotype and personhood.

While I’m not a clinical neurodiversity expert, I bring lived experience as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) with some trauma-acquired neurodivergence. My approach is shaped by personal experience, continuous learning, and deep listening. I’ve supported many neurodivergent participants in finding their own way into mindfulness and practising it in ways that honour their unique experiences.

I also organise the annual Manchester Mindfulness Festival and host quarterly global online gatherings for mindfulness professionals.

My free meditations on Insight Timer have been played over 43k times, and I recently contributed recordings to a global study by Dr Sparacio and colleagues, conducted across 37 sites and involving over 2k participants, published in Nature Human Behaviour.

When I’m not teaching, I love spending time in nature, catching up with friends, getting lost in my eclectic taste in music, and coming up with awesome names for cats and dogs. I live with my husband, Ed, in Sale, near Manchester.

Despite my deep commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, I know I have systemic blindspots. Ongoing unlearning and re-learning are essential to my practice.
